1. Photo & Artwork Guidelines (Engraving Guide)

What kind of photo works best for 3D crystal and laser engraving?

For the most detailed and breathtaking results, we recommend:

  • High Resolution: Clear, sharp photos taken with good lighting.
  • Good Contrast: Photos where the subjects stand out clearly from the background.
  • Even Lighting: Avoid extreme dark shadows across faces or heavy backlight/sun flare.
  • Close-Ups / Portraits: Clear views of facial features produce the best depth in 3D crystal engravings.

Tip: You do not need professional studio photos — modern smartphone photos in natural light work great!

Can you remove the background from my photo?

Yes. For all 3D crystal engravings and custom portraits, our digital artists automatically crop and remove distracting backgrounds at no extra charge, focusing purely on you, your loved ones, or your pets.

Can you combine people or pets from different photos into one piece?

Yes! If you have separate photos of family members, couples, or pets that you would like depicted together, simply upload both images with a note at checkout or contact us at . Our designers will create a seamless composite layout.

What file formats do you accept?

We accept all standard image formats including JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, PDF, SVG, AI, and EPS. If you have an older printed photograph, you can take a flat, glare-free scan or high-resolution phone picture of it.

2. Our Craft & 3D Laser Technology

How does 3D Sub-Surface Crystal Engraving work?

We use advanced Sub-Surface Laser Engraving (SSLE) technology. High-frequency green laser pulses focus precisely inside optical-grade K9 crystal without touching or damaging the outer glass surface. This creates hundreds of thousands of microscopic light points that form a three-dimensional volumetric image floating within the crystal block.

Will the engraving ever fade or wear off?

Never. Because the 3D engraving is created internally inside the molecular structure of the optical crystal, it will never fade, discolor, scratch, or degrade. It remains crystal clear forever.

Are LED light bases included?

We offer premium handcrafted wooden LED bases (available in Warm White and Multi-Color options). Illumination brings out the depth, highlights, and contrast of the 3D internal laser etching.

3. Customization & Proofing

Can I add custom text, dates, or personal messages?

Yes. You can add names, dates, quotes, Bible verses, coordinates, or personalized dedications. Custom text can be engraved directly into the crystal or onto the accompanying wooden base.

Do I get a preview/proof before you engrave?

For custom graphic orders and multi-photo composites, our artisan team can provide a digital mockup upon request before beginning production.

4. Production, Shipping & Delivery

How long does production take?

Because every piece is bespoke:

  • Design & 3D Modeling: 1–2 business days.
  • Precision Laser Engraving & Quality Inspection: 1–2 business days.
  • Standard Production Time: 2–4 business days before dispatch.

What are the delivery times?

  • Standard Shipping (US/Domestic): 3–6 business days.
  • Express / Priority Shipping: 2–3 business days.
  • Free Shipping: Available on all qualifying orders over $75.

Do you offer rush orders for special milestones or memorials?

If you have an urgent deadline for an anniversary, wedding, birthday, or memorial service, please contact us immediately after ordering with your order number. We will do our absolute best to prioritize your piece.

5. Packaging & Gift Presentation

Is the packaging gift-ready?

Yes. Every Etch A Memory crystal piece is shipped in a luxury, silk-lined presentation gift box with custom molded protective foam, making it ready to present to your loved one the moment it arrives.

Are prices included in the box?

No. Invoices with pricing are sent digitally to your email; no pricing is included inside the gift box packaging.

6. Care & Maintenance Instructions

How do I clean my crystal or laser-etched piece?

  • Optical Crystal: Gently wipe with a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth. If needed, use a light mist of standard glass cleaner or water. Avoid abrasive sponges.
  • Natural Slate Coasters: Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Anodized Metal & Acrylic: Dust with a soft microfiber cloth to prevent surface smudges.

7. Returns & 100% Happiness Guarantee

What if my order arrives damaged or with an error?

We take immense pride in our craftsmanship. If your order arrives damaged during transit, or if there is any mistake in the engraving, please email  within 7 days with a photo of the item. We will replace and remake your piece free of charge.
